Who Can Get a Card

To obtain a library card from University Park Public Library you must reside in University Park, IL. Children under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian’s signature on the card as well as their own signature. Parents must come into the library with the child to fill out the application. Library cards are issued to children who are 3 years old or older.

How to Get Your Card

To obtain a library card you must present two pieces of identification showing your name and current address.

THE FOLLOWING ARE ACCEPTED:

Drivers license or state ID, Checkbook, Voters registration card, Lease or mortgage payment book, Gun registration card, W2 or front page of the 1040 form, Current (within 90 days) utility bill, Payroll check or stub, Credit card statement, Current postmarked piece of mail addressed to the applicant

Cards are issued the same day and if you are not able to wait for your card to be made, it can be picked up at the circulation desk. They are not mailed to your home.

Renewal of Library Cards

Cards are renewed every two years. Patron must bring in the card along with one piece of ID showing name and address. There is no charge for renewing the card.

Lost Library Cards

Lost cards will be replaced for $2.00 and the patron must provide identification. Please notify the circulation department as soon as you notice that your card is missing. Patrons are responsible for all materials checked out with their card.

Borrowing Limits

Books, periodicals, VHS tapes, CDs, books on tape are checked out for 2 weeks with no grace period. These materials may be renewed 2 times if there are no outstanding requests. There are no limitations on the number of books or periodicals which may be checked out. Books on tape are limited to 5 each per person. CDs are limited to 10 per person.

DVDs are checked out for 3 days with no grace period. VHS tapes and DVDs are limited to 3 per household (in any combination). These items may not be renewed.

The loan length of materials obtained from other libraries will be determined by that library.

LIBRARY FINES:

  • Fines for overdue books, periodicals, and audio materials: .10¢ per day
  • Fines for overdue VHS tapes, DVDs, and Reading Awareness Kits: $2.00 per day
  • Materials borrowed from other libraries are subject to the fines imposed by that library.
  • Charge for returned checks: $25.00
  • Charge for materials obtained from out-of-state sources: $3.00
  • Charge for lost library card replacement: $2.00
  • Some test books require a $10.00 deposit. When the materials are returned, the fee is refunded in full.

You may now pay your fines and fees online using Visa, Mastercard or Discover. Debit cards are not accepted. To use this feature, you must login to your patron account and follow instructions for Pay Online.
